Prior to the award announcement, a keynote speech on "the haves and have-nots of healthcare" was delivered by Dr. Gloria WilderBrathwaite, a nationally renowned pediatrican and poverty expert and winner of Oprah's Angel Network Use Your Life Award.



Ann Goodnight and Dr. Donald RosenblittAnn Goodnight, board chair of the John Rex Endowment, presented the 2005 Hands of Health Award to Dr. Rosenblitt, founding and current clinical director of the Lucy Daniels Center in Cary, a nationally recognized private, nonprofit program devoted to promoting the healthy emotionally development of young children. The Center is a vibrant blend of a school, a children's mental health facility, and a training site for parents and professionals. www.lucydanielscenter.org


The annual John Rex Endowment Hands of Health Award honors individuals whose innovative work helps improve the health of underserved children in Wake County. The Endowment presented Dr. Rosenblitt with a specially commissioned bronze sculpture and will contribute $10,000 to the Lucy Daniels Foundation on behalf of Dr. Rosenblitt.

Dr. Rosenblitt is a child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who, in partnership with Dr. Lucy Daniels, launched a ground-breaking program to apply the psychoanalytic model of emotional health in the preschool classroom. He is a model of dedication and compassion and a successful advocate for advancement in children's mental health services. His tireless work has earned Wake County national recognition as a hub for the highest quality mental health and education services for emotionally at-risk children.

Dr. Rosenblitt completed his medical training and residencies in adult and child psychiatry at Duke University School of Medicine, and is a graduate of the UNC-Duke Psychoanalytic Education Program where he currently serves as director.
