Location, availability, and awareness can build barriers between children and health care. Low-income children have a high rate of untreated tooth decay. Effective treatment for asthma and diabetes is a complicated problem. The resources for early intervention for medically and developmentally fragile children are taxed. Our growing population of Latino children faces its own set of barriers to care because of insurance eligibility, language and income levels.

Now diabetes and dental care, medications and mental health all receive attention in the variety of projects community agencies are running with our support. And the list is growing. Projects that can overcome other barriers that stand between children and health services they need continue to be a funding priority for us.
