Medication and Diagnostic Testing grant extension - 2007/2008

Purpose:
Provide needed medications and diagnostic lab testing to teens in order to decrease health disparities in high-risk youth.
How:
- Provide mediations for chronic illness;
- Offer diagnostic testing for more effective treatment;
- Increase compliance with recommended treatment;
- Decrease necessity of follow-up visits;
- Provide access to affordable contraceptive options to sexually active Wake Teen patients;
- Provide those patients with contraceptive plan and education about risks and responsibilities of sexual activity.
Outcomes:
- Adolescents will have access to necessary care regardless of ability to pay;
- Uninsured patients will have access to same standard of care as insured patients - compliance with recommended treatment will increase;
- Sexually active patients will have access to contraceptive options and have a documented contraceptive plan.
Cost/Term:
$67,200 ($33,600 a year for two years)
