Purpose:
Establish an interdisciplinary telehealth network using web-based resources and real time videoconferencing to improve the quality of and access to specialized medical, therapy, and peer support services for young children with disabilities and their families in Wake County.
How:
- Establish training and support objectives for partner day care centers in Wake County.
- Train partner staff in use of web-based resources, videoconferencing and professional development.
- Build a Wake County community among professionals and families that leverages existing resources.
- Supplement existing resources with additional expertise including UNC-Chapel Hill professionals.
- Attain high-speed internet access for partner centers that centers agree to operate in the future.
Outcome:
- Develop goals for each of six day care centers in collaboration with staff and parents and for 3-4 service programs.
- Secure high-speed internet connectivity and end user stations at each center for training, videoconferencing and interdisciplinary consultations.
- Develop and deliver educational programs based on needs identified by each site.
- Evaluate the impact of activities based on qualitative data demonstrating changes in perceptions of serving needs of children in centers and quantitative data on satisfaction with programs, technology and process.
Cost/Term:
$443,472 for a three-year period.
