Teens Taking Action - Peer Education and Outreach

Purpose:
Educate at risk youth about teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections by adding "Teens Taking Action" to educational outreach offered in Wake County.
How:
- Use a Planned Parenthood Community Educator to screen, identify and train peer educators ages 15 to 19;
- Recruit from lower income and minority communities through contacts with community organizations;
- Train 12 to 15 in the "Teens Taking Action" curriculum;
- Have trained teens complete 30 hours of community outreach through peer education groups.
Outcomes:
- Pre and post test for peer educators on topics covered in 12 week training;
- Track number of teenagers directly reached by "Teens Taking Action";
- Hold first "Teens Taking Action" summit in Wake County.
Cost/Term:
$111,575 over three years
