Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice

Purpose: This project focuses on improving the ability for AHA to shape the environment so healthful eating and physical activity are the way of life for everyone living in Wake County.
 
How:
  1. Partnership development activities such as developing communication strategies.
  2. Clinical-related activities such as the continued engagement of physicians to support AHA’s advocacy agenda.
  3. School-related activities such as the Brains and Bodies workshops with PTA councils.
  4. Built environment and local food-related activities such as zoning and land use policy advocacy to support community gardening.
  5. Early childhood-related activities such as changing policies and environments in child care centers.
  6. Community-related activities such as working with afterschool programs to adopt Eat Smart Move More Standards.
Outcomes:
  1. Strong community collaborative that is well suited to respond to community needs related to access to healthful food, physical activity, and obesity prevention.
  2. Changes in policies and environments that support access to healthful food and physical activity.
Cost/Term: $303,114 over three years. September 2010 – August 2013.
