CAPAZ Positive Youth Development Initiative

Purpose: The purpose is to develop agency-wide programming that truly functions within a positive youth development (PYD) framework with an emphasis on:
  • Integrating PYD principles into the leadership, structure and vision of the agency as a whole.
  • Creating a holistic structure in which existing youth programs are incorporated within a comprehensive framework that moves beyond particular “issues” and addresses components of PYD across all spheres.
How:
Conduct a formal agency-wide assessment of multiple components such as:
  • El Pueblo Inc’s capacity regarding the integration of PYD principles;
  • current level of youth, family and community involvement; and
  • strengths, weaknesses and opportunities within El Pueblo Inc’s youth programs.
Develop a strategic plan to improve the integration of PYD tenets through:
  • meaningful active participation by youth, family members and community;
  • intentional commitment to ensuring that underserved and particularly vulnerable youth are being reached and included;
  • providing ongoing PYD trainings to prepare staff, board members, youth and families for their respective roles;
  • revising El Pueblo, Inc’s existing policies and procedures; and
  • developing unified mission vision and infrastructure to reflect an agency-wide PYD approach.
Outcomes:
  1. Comprehensive strategic implementation plan with expectations of accountability.
  2. Evaluation plan including benchmarks, measures and timeline.
  3. Formal resources and training tools.
  4. Positive shift in El Pueblo, Inc’s organizational culture, unified mission, vision and infrastructure reflecting PYD tenets and positioned to proceed to implementation.
Cost / Term: $115,322 over 18 months.
