Children's Mental Health Services - Phase II

Purpose:
Increase access to effective mental health and psychiatric services for uninsured and low-income children and assess the availability of child mental health resources in Wake County in order to influence system improvements.
How:
- Provide sliding fee scale services so that children complete treatment.
- Arrange for psychiatric evaluation, consultation to therapy staff at TFS, and medication oversight from Board Certified Child Psychiatrist.
- Qualify eligible children for Medicaid or Health Choice coverage.
- Inform pediatricians and family care providers of availability of sliding fee scale treatment.
- Determine number of unidentified or untreated children and barriers to their care in Wake County.
Outcome:
- Provide 780 therapy sessions by serving approximately 65 children with an average of 12 sessions.
- Show improvement in functioning by at least 70% of those receiving services as measured with the Global Assessment of Functioning tool.
- Demonstrate 90% report by family of improvement in child level of functioning.
- Increase provider awareness of and referral to this service.
- Develop recommendations from provider community for strategies to address mental health needs for underserved children in Wake County.
Cost/Term:
$322,076 over three years. October 2005-September 2008
