Purpose: The project is intended to increase the capacity of community organizations to implement sustainable physical activity and healthy eating opportunities for underserved children and youth in Wake County.
How:
- Provide planning or implementation grant funding to six community organizations focused on assessing physical activity and nutrition environments or implementing improvements.
- Individualized training and technical assistance plan for each grantee .
- Networking and training opportunities for all grantees twice a year.
- Identification of local partners to ensure grantees are linked to existing resources and opportunities.
Outcomes:
- Increased number of community organizations that create sustainable physical activity and/or healthy eating opportunities for their members or community.
- Increased ability of funded organizations to assess, plan, implement, and sustain activities that support physical activity and healthy eating.
- Increased number of community organizations that engage in county-wide efforts to promote and support physical activity and healthy eating.
Cost/Term: $940,115 over four years. September 2010 – December 2014.
