Developing a Therapeutic Supervised Visitation Program

Purpose: [Build on the existing supervised visitation program to] develop a therapeutic supervised visitation program that will provide courts and families the alternative of therapeutic assessments, referrals and treatment in order to maximize the family’s experience and benefits of supervised visitation.
 
How
1.    Develop coordination between agency and court systems.
2.    Identify court-specific requirements like referral criteria.
3.    Train partners including court staff.
4.    Develop internal program structures.
5.    Develop orientation curriculum and materials for participating families.
6.    Conduct process and outcome evaluation to determine effectiveness of program.
 
Outcomes:
1.    Increased ability to identify and address unmet mental health needs of children and families.
2.    Increased ability to serve more families for longer periods of time with better results.
3.    Maintenance of a community safety net of comprehensive support for children in families in need.
4.    Integration of the therapeutic supervised visitation program into system of support services.
 
Cost/Term: $15,000 over 18 months.
