HOST (Healthy Out of School Time)

Purpose:
- Increase availability and quality of after school and summer time community recreational opportunities for school age youth with cognitive, behavioral and emotional and physical disabilities.
- Increase participation of children with disabilities in day cares, after school programs and summer camps with typically developing peers.
How:
- Conduct assessments of agencies to determine training programs and commitment to participation.
- Train and consult with recreational staff of YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department, and after school providers.
- Support families locating services with individual consultations and workshops.
Outcomes:
- 25 to 40 provider agencies will receive training.
- 50-75 individual youth and families will receive support to find out of school time activities.
- 100 to 150 parents will participate in educational workshops.
- Materials and resource information will be developed for providers and families.
- 20 agency staff will participate in a 'train the trainer' course.
Cost/Term:
$303,990 over three years. February 2006-February 2009
