Teen Prescription Fund - Phase I

What: Access to medications and lab screenings.

From: Wake Teen Medical Services

Contact: Joyce Wood, Executive Director

Purpose: Ensure that low-income, uninsured, and underinsured youth, age 10-23, have access to medications and lab screenings ordered by Wake Teen physicians.

How:
  1. Expand assortment of medications available in Wake Teen in-clinic pharmacy.
  2. Subsidize cost of lab tests for low income and uninsured patients who need testing to determine best course of treatment.
Outcome:
  1. 80% of low income, uninsured teens treated at Wake Teen will have access to needed medications.
  2. 65% of low income, uninsured teens treated at Wake Teen will be offered needed diagnostic testing.
  3. Compliance with recommended treatment will increase due to availability of medications and diagnostic testing.
  4. Number of follow-up visits will decrease.
Cost/Term: $34,000 for a two-year period. November 2002-November 2004
