Purpose:
Provide needed medications and diagnostic lab testing to teens in order to decrease health disparities in high risk youth.
How:
- Provide medications for chronic illness.
- Offer diagnostic testing for more effective treatment.
- Increase compliance with recommended treatment.
- Decrease necessity of follow-up visits.
- Provide access to affordable contraceptive options to sexually active Wake Teen patients.
- Provide those patients with a contraceptive plan and education about risks and responsibilities of sexual activity.
Outcome:
- Adolescents will have access to necessary care regardless of ability to pay.
- Uninsured patients will have access to same standard of care as insured patients - compliance with recommended treatment will increase.
- Sexually active patients will have access to contraceptive options and have a documented contraceptive plan.
Cost/Term:
$67,200 ($33,600 a year for two years). February 2005-January 2007
