Young Farmers Project Grows After Grant from John Rex Endowment

The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (IFFS) is growing the next generation of farmers in North Carolina through a Young Farmers Training Program that received initial seed funding in 2010 from the John Rex Endowment. IFFS will receive a $700,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide support for the program at the IFFS Food Shuttle Farm on Dover Farm Road in West Raleigh.  Read the IFFS Press Release.

The IFFS Young Farmers Training program is a paid multi-year farming apprenticeship for youth in Wake County. The program is designed for youth, ages 15-18, and is the only one of its kind in North Carolina. Currently there are 12 first-year students and seven returning second-year students enrolled in the program.
