$1.8 Million Awarded for New Healthy Weight Initiative Grants

The John Rex Endowment continues a long-term commitment to a Healthy Weight Initiative with more than $1.8 million awarded for new grant projects which will focus on encouraging healthy eating, physical activity, and community-wide solutions to combat childhood obesity. Since 2006, the John Rex Endowment has supported Healthy Weight Initiative investments in various Wake County settings which include elementary schools, childcare settings and communities.

The following nonprofit organizations will receive funding for new Healthy Weight Initiative grants:
 
Advocates for Health in Action
$303,114 over three years for Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice  
 
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle
$447,924 over three years for Empowering Healthy Food Choices
 
Marbles Kids Museum
$156,199 over three years for Be Healthy, Be Active
 
North Carolina Division of Public Health, Physical Activity and Nutrition Branch
$940,115 over four years for Community Enhancement Grants

“These recent Healthy Weight Initiative investments enhance our current portfolio of strategies which include capacity building, community outreach, health education, clinical interventions and policy advocacy,” said Kevin Cain, president and CEO of the John Rex Endowment.
